Welcome to Granite County….
We’re 1,733 square miles of forests, mountains, lakes, rivers, and grasslands. Philipsburg is our county seat. It has a beautifully restored and seasonally bustling downtown. Our other incorporated town is Drummond, an agricultural community located on the banks of the Clark Fork River. Montana Highway One begins in Drummond and threads its way southwest through the lower Flint Creek Valley past some of the County’s 130 ranches toward Philipsburg and upper Flint Creek. At the top is Georgetown Lake, a reservoir sheltered by the Pintler Mountains. Rock Creek, and its tributaries, is our other major watershed and it’s a favored blue-ribbon trout stream and recreational area.
Established in 1893, Granite County celebrates its early mining history. You can see it in our museums and ghost towns. Today, we remain mostly rural with a diverse economy. Our community members ranch for a living, or teach school, or work in a small lumber mill, or may telecommute via the T1 line that follows Highway One. Others enjoy retirement in a peaceful and scenic environment.
We are the people of Granite County, your local government.
